Cherry Gentix Silent MouseThis time we are going to look at a Cherry product that is not intended for gaming. On the other hand, it is intended for office use in environments where there is a need for silence. Welcome to the Cherry Gentix Silent mouse.
Cherry is a known manufacturer, but primarily for its gaming contacts for keyboards. However, they also make their own products for office and gaming.
What is inside the box. You receive a small nice looking white box when you buy this mouse. Outside the box is a print of the product itself on the front and sides, and the specifications are listed on the back of the box.
Inside the box we find the actual mouse pack securely in a bag of bubble wrap. There is also a small user guide that tells a little about the mouse and what it may be like.
Moving on to the technical specifications. As you can see, there are not many options for settings on the mouse. It runs at a fixed setting of 1000 DPI, and the buttons can hold at least 3 million. activations. The mouse is symmetrically designed and has 3 buttons, which means that you will probably missing some. We'll look at it soon.
Let us take a look at the product. As you can see, it is a very stylish mouse. In general, Cherry makes stylish products.
The scroll wheel is coated with soft rubber so you have a good grip. There is also a button in the scroll wheel itself. If it is completely dark, you can sense the light from the sensor through the transparent plastic in the sides of the wheel.
There are no buttons on the side of this mouse. On the other hand, there is a nice soft rubber pad that ensures a good grip on the mouse.
The same goes for the other side.
The mouse is split in half with a gray line. A pretty discreet Cherry logo is printed on this gray stripe.
Looking under the mouse, we can see the sensor. There are 4 good sliding pads, so the mouse slides easily over most surfaces.
The 1.8 meter long wire is relatively thin, and in plastic. This product is not intended for gaming, so fancy fabrics are not necessary here.
Software: Cherry has made a common software for all of their products called KeyMan. KeyMan allows you to adjust different settings in the Cherry products you have installed. On this mouse you can adjust the functions of the 3 buttons. So you actually have the option of giving the scroll wheel a function of your choice. Some might find that useful.
How is the mouse in use. I have tested Cherry Gentix Silent over a few days to get an impression of it in everyday use. Daily use: I have used the mouse for all purposes in the last days, or that's what I have tried to at least. The mouse is good, of that there is no doubt. But when I am also a gamer, this mouse falls a little to the ground. It lacks buttons and DPI settings. Had Cherry just given the mouse one or two buttons on the side and an option to set DPI. Then it would have been a whole different story. However, this mouse is not sold at all as a gaming product, so I will of course not judge it from that. However, the buttons on the side are still missing. Ergonomics: In fact, Cherry Gentix Silent is quite handy. The curved design makes the hand naturally fit on the mouse, even though I have a relatively big hand. The mouse also has some really good rubber on the sides. This makes it easy and effortless to lift the mouse from the surface and adjust the position. The noise: It's just the when it comes to noise that Cherry Gentix Silent has its advantage. All buttons in the mouse are very quiet. So you do not disturb the environment you are in with endless click sounds all the time. The scroll wheel is also very quiet. The little clicks there are when you roll, say virtually nothing. There is no doubt that this mouse is good for office environments where you are sitting together. You will not notice that anyone is using this mouse.
What is my rating then. Cherry has as always made a really great product. Cherry Gentix Silent is a good mouse for office use. It can not be recommended for gaming unless you use exactly the settings that this mouse offers. I really like the rubber on the sides of the mouse. It really makes you have a good grip on the mouse when you want to correct the position on the mouse pad. Unfortunately, you can not adjust the DPI setting on the mouse. It could have been very nice since not everyone can use a mouse that is locked to 1000 DPI. However, you can customize the speed of the mouse in Windows settings for the mouse as usual. The only thing I personally missed with this mouse is the buttons on the side. I use them all the time, and it annoys me to look for the buttons on the screen instead of just pressing them. The normal function of the buttons on the side of a mouse is back and forward. I use it all the time when I browse the web or look in file folders. If you're not used to using these buttons, I can definitely recommend this mouse. Since beyond this little shortcoming, it's great to use. The mouse costs about 120 DKK at the time of writing, which is not particularly much for a good stable mouse. My final assessment of this mouse must be a beautifully shiny SILVER star rating. It gets silver because I simply miss the buttons on the side and the ability to set the DPI on the mouse. Even though I know that the mouse is for office use only. I use the buttons all the time, and I can also use DPI when editing pictures.
